Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose was carted off the field on Sunday after a helmet-to-helmet hit during the team’s 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans.

The Dolphins announced that DuBose was transported to the hospital in "stable condition" and will undergo further evaluation.

The incident occurred in the third quarter when DuBose cut across the middle of the field to catch a pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. He was hit by Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock, who was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play.

Grant DuBose remained on the field for over 10 minutes as medical personnel attended to him. They removed his jersey, unscrewed his facemask, and fitted him with a neck brace before he was carted off the field at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Players from both the Dolphins and Texans gathered around during the on-field care, with some seen praying for DuBose.

According to the CBS broadcast, Harris County emergency medical staff continued treating DuBose while loading him into an ambulance.

After the game, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa provided an update, saying DuBose was “doing well” and “recovering.” However, Tagovailoa also reflected on the play and questioned if his throw could have been better.

“I’m my toughest critic when it comes to ball placement and knowing where to go with the ball,” Tagovailoa said following the Dolphins’ loss. “I just feel bad that I even put him in that situation to have gotten hit.

“It was tough to move on after that happened,” Tagovailoa continued. “We all know I’ve gone through something very similar, and that’s no fun. You never want to be in those situations, but you also understand that this is a physical sport.”

Grant DuBose is currently receiving care at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, according to CBS.

Following the game, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided an update on the wide receiver’s condition. “There’s been some positive feedback related to some head and neck imaging,” McDaniel said. “He will remain here overnight, and we’ll have more information by Monday.”

Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock, who delivered the hit on DuBose, expressed his remorse after the game. “Prayers to him and his family. I hope he is good,” Bullock said. “I was just breaking on the ball, and it ended up being one of those plays.”

Bullock emphasized the challenges defensive players face in such situations. “It’s very difficult because we’re trying to protect them and ourselves at the same time. Angles and split-second decisions play a big role, but at the end of the day, this is still a violent game.”

The Dolphins had just activated the 23-year-old DuBose for Sunday’s matchup after he recovered from a shoulder injury that had kept him on the injured list.

CNN has reached out to the Dolphins for further comment.
