Sports: World Series Star Walker Buehler Signs with Boston Red Sox

Dodgers' Postseason Hero Walker Buehler Heads to Boston Red Sox

One of the pivotal players in the Los Angeles Dodgers' journey to their latest World Series championship will take the mound for a new team next season.

Walker Buehler, the right-handed ace who has been a cornerstone of the Dodgers’ rotation since 2018, has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox worth $21.05 million, including performance incentives. The news, initially reported by Yahoo! Sports on Monday morning, has been confirmed by multiple sources.

Despite a challenging 2024 regular season as he returned from his second Tommy John surgery, Buehler proved his value in the postseason. Over three starts and four total appearances, he posted a 3.60 ERA and delivered in critical moments. Most memorably, Buehler closed out the Dodgers’ World Series-clinching Game 5 win over the New York Yankees, securing the save on just one day of rest.

Buehler leaves the Dodgers as a two-time World Series champion, bringing his playoff experience and proven resilience to a Boston team eager to strengthen its pitching rotation for the upcoming season.

Walker Buehler’s standout postseason performances have earned him a spot on the Boston Red Sox roster as the team continues to build a competitive pitching staff for the 2025 season. The 30-year-old right-hander joins Boston after signing a one-year, $21.05 million deal.

The Red Sox have been active this offseason, previously acquiring left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox via trade and signing Patrick Sandoval, who is also recovering from Tommy John surgery. Despite a challenging 2024 regular season in which Buehler posted a 1-6 record with a 5.38 ERA over 16 starts, his postseason heroics were enough to secure his spot in Boston's rotation.

Buehler’s standout season came in 2021 when he posted an impressive 16-4 record with a 2.47 ERA, striking out 212 batters over 207 innings. At the time, he looked poised to become the Dodgers’ next ace alongside Clayton Kershaw for years to come. However, his career trajectory was interrupted by elbow injuries that required multiple surgeries, sidelining him for nearly two years, including the entirety of the 2023 season. Buehler finally made his return to the mound in May 2024.
